on Christmas day...in the morning

timid towards her new horse
still not sure if she likes it
the perfect gift for our head injury baby

cuddling with a new soft sleeper
reading her new book (out loud)
LARD COOKIES-she found the bag, opened it up, and took a bite. She's a convert! My family loves these cookies and now she has partaken. She's only had sugar a couple of times before this, but I figured "it's Christmas" so she enjoyed and savored these cookies.

trimming the tree

These were taken a couple of weeks ago, but I have been debating since then whether or not to post them. I didn't want anyone to call CPA or ASPCA or whatever it's called. She has a BLAST and would have done this for several more hours if we had let her, but we didn't want to watch her for several more hours. She loves to climb, swings, slide, ride, spin, fly.....

Christmas Sunday

It's always nice to have a picture taken in nice clothes and usually Sunday is the only day that's going to happen. The Sunday before Christmas is one of my favorite Sunday's of the year. It brings the whole season together for me. Today I asked my Sunday School class "Who named the Wise Men?" and one of the boys quickly answered "their mother's".

where are you going?

She decided to slide out the bottom of her chair and was perfectly content to be in this position for a few minutes. She even reached her little hands up, grabbed some Cherrios, and
ate while she sat like this. Eventually, she did get sick of it and her dad had to figure out how to get her out (the tray doesn't come off very easily.)
Lately she has been such the explorer, opening every drawer and cupboard she can find. She definitly has her favorite drawer and loves to take the contents out. Sometimes, she will even put them back!

bath hair

Obviously, I think this is funny and sometimes wonder if anyone else enjoys doing this to their kids as much as I do. If the day ever comes that I don't laugh while messing with her hair, I'll need a serious attitude adjustment. I love the before and after. She reminds me of a Gremlin. So cute and angelic in the first picture and then crazy in the next picture.
If you look close enough you will see a red mark on the right side of her forhead. Yep, she hit her head again.

'tis the season for

hitting her head, fa la la la laaaa, la la la laaaa.
It's nice that babies heads are soft and that they heal quickly. I'm just glad she didn't it the same spot twice.

table slide

This table is one of the best toys my parents have. The kids love it. She discovered it about a week ago and likes to go down it on her back, on her bottom, on her side...as long as her socks are off she can go up and down as much as she wants.

all she wants for Christmas

She has really good taste in toys. She's a little picky, but I think we are going to buy her one of her own.

baby soup

'Tis the Season for SOUP! I love soup in the winter. Frequently we make a batch of soup and then eat it for a week. Bear Creek mixes are some of our favorites. Just make it like the bag tells you to then add anything else you can find. All we need now is someone to make us dilli rolls.

santa baby

Her dress is a little over the top, but too cute to pass up. There is a hat that goes with it, but she would NEVER keep it on so why even try. Our babe was 13 months yesterday. She's decided she wants to walk 90% of the time now. There wasn't much interest before and that was great by us. We never had to tie her shoes together to keep her from walking too soon! She's also finally wearing size 2 diapers. Well, not really, I just haven't been to the store to buy more 1's, but we'll just pretend she's bigger than a 3 months old.

bed head

Bed head always makes me laugh. No matter what kind of mood I am in. Seeing her minimal hair fuzzy and sticking up all over the place is always funny to me. As always, the picture doesn't do it justice and I may not always think it's so funny, but for now, it's one of my favorite things.

more stocking stuffers

Here's a picture of the stockings I made when we were first married. Actually the one she's in was a dud. I didn't realize it was backwards until it was too late.

stocking stuffers

I think she looks more like a drunken mermaid, but she's also a pretty cute little stocking stuffer. I'm on the hunt for new stockings this year. I made some when we were newlyweds. They were pretty snazzy (to go along with my musical theater background) but now I would like something a little more....relaxing and classy. I thought about making them, but that thought vanished quickly. I was hoping Martha would have some stockings this year. Most years her KMART collection is FABULOUS (seriously), this year a lot of it STINKS. She has let me down. I thought I could count on Martha to always be classy. There are still some nice things, but overall I give it a 6.

Christmas Traditions

Since Christmas is disappearing (a whole other subject) I want to make sure we keep it alive and strong in my family. Below are some of our traditions, some traditions that I would like to start, and some traditions I thought were just neat.

1. a Christmas story a day. Starting December first. It includes a scripture relating to Christ a Christmas carol.
2. Christmas eve dinner baked potatoes and clam chowder.

3. Christmas eve with my family. A talent show (her first performance picture above), Luke II, a musical gift exchange, and rice pudding. Whoever finds the whole almost gets a prize.
4. Secret Santa for a family in need for the month of December.
5. Getting a Christmas ornament every year that symbolized something from the past year.
6. Getting a charm (instead of an ornament) to put on your Christmas stocking.
7. Driving around looking at Christmas lights and giving the best house certificates for having a great light display.
8. Secretly giving a family one member of the Christmas nativity each day and then giving them baby Jesus Christmas eve.
9. Christmas morning each person gets 3 presents that represent the "Gifts of the Magi." Something needed, something wanted, and something spiritual. (loose interpretation)
10. No present Christmas morning... a family vacation (cruise, Disneyland....)
11. The Christmas Pickle. Whoever finds the pickle hidden in the tree gets an extra present.
12. Pick one of your gifts Christmas morning and take it to someone who needs it.
13. Christmas eve everyone gets to open a package of new pajamas.
14. Celebrate Santa's arrival on the 6th and then dedicate the 25th to the Savior.
15. Shop the after Christmas sales and then have Nancy New Year (Santa's wife) bring some presents New Year's day.
16. Attend my families Christmas Bell Program the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It will put you in the Christmas mood.
17. Each family prepares a scrapbook page of events that year and then exchanges them with the rest of the family. It's very fun to look through the past years, especially at the changing grand kids.
18. Christmas eve Bethlehem dinner. Dress is robes and eat fish, pita bread, fresh fruit and drink grape juice.

cure for sick babies

A couple of weeks ago, when she had a really bad cough, I thought sitting in the hot tube might make her feel better. I was a little concerned it would be too hot for her. Too hot for her? It was too hot for ME! She would have stayed in the entire day, but I was melting. After hot tubing, granddad pulled her around the gym on the dolly. What a life!

new dress

sometimes little dresses are just too hard to pass up...
Have I told you she's stepping? Not quite walking, but she takes several steps here and there. I don't think she see's the point in walking, so whenever she decides it time, she'll do it.

christmas tree

Last Friday we went up into the mountains with my brother's in-laws and cut our Christmas tree. We bundled up the babies, tromped through hundreds of trees and sticker bushes and after hours of carefully inspecting each tree we got fed up and my niece picked one out for us. It's small, perfectly proportioned and will be easy to decorate. After that, we ate hot dogs, drank hot chocolate, and froze our buns off when the wind blew. Notice in the bottom picture my brother and wife looking at something. While I was taking this family picture their baby, who was already warm in his car seat, was projectile vomiting all over my brother's truck. These are what memories are made of.

one year ago

Our friends came to visit one year ago this weekend so they could see our new baby and so Shonda could take some BEAUTIFUL pictures. If anyone travels or lives 8 hours north of me. Look her up. She's worth the trip (now I need to take my own advice.)

birthday in review

Dad and Granddad put her in a box to keep her entertained.
She met a new friend to play with.
She had a BOOK BIRTHDAY PARTY where
she received lots of wonderful books and was spoiled with presents
by long-distance friends

I made her an apple-banana muffin cake with applesauce/cereal frosting (it even sounds gross to me now.) She was mesmerized by the candles and loved the singing. She was disgusted by the frosting as soon as she touched it and instantly started to dry heave. Another touch triggered her gag reflexes again. After several dry heaves, she finally threw up.

After she was cleaned up, she enjoyed some of her new presents and ate an apple-banana muffin (without the frosting).

birthday cake

While I am waiting for the pictures (some are on my dad's camera) I'll just wanted you all to know how much she loved her birthday cake...

she threw up.
